Certain Risk Factors Can Increase the Causes of Insomnia

Certain groups of people are more susceptible to than others. These groups include females and elderly people. It also includes people that suffer from anxiety, stress and certain medical conditions. Some side effects from medications can be causes of as well. People that fall into these categories have higher risk factors than ones who do not.

Different Time lengths - Different Causes of Insomnia

Insomnia is classified according to how long you have suffered from this condition. There are three major types of insomnia. The type that last for a short time and then goes away is called transient insomnia. If it goes away and comes back off and on, then it is called intermittent insomnia.

These causes of are usually caused by some underlying disorder that relates to your physical, mental or emotional state which makes them harder to pinpoint.

It is a lot more difficult for you to find causes of when you are suffering from chronic insomnia. Many times it is caused by emotional or physical disorders. It can be the result of some type of mental disorder causing the problems. Other causes can be related to medical conditions such as narcolepsy, Parkinsons disease, hyperthyroidism, arthritis or depression. Kidney disease, heart conditions, restless leg syndrome, asthma and sleep apnea are also possible causes of chronic insomnia.

Behavioural factors are also causes of and these include substance abuse, anxiety caused by poor sleeping habits, smoking, excessive use of caffeine or alcohol and napping during the day. There are other behavioural factors that can cause you to have as well.

Finding the Source of the Problem

Confronting the source of the problem is the best way to determine which treatment would suit your needs the best. Sometimes treatment can be as simple as removing the factors that are causing the condition. However, other times it is not this easy. This is why it is so important to find the causes of that are keeping you up at night.
