You've probably heard the phrase "planning backwards" when talking about goal setting and ways to fulfill your dreams. But what I am sure you're not familiar with is the very first step to beginning this process.
When you look at a house, what do you see? Walls, a door, maybe, a roof, windows, and a yard. That makes a (supposedly) complete house. But not many people realize what makes that house stand is not the walls or roof, but the foundation.
This is what I am going to explain today. The "foundation" of your goals, dreams, and aspirations that will make your life a real adventure (if that is what you want).
The majority of people want two things that contrast, when setting goals. This is why they fail. They want to be this, but then they also want it to be handed to them. The real successes have realized that when they want something, they go out and get it. They learn to simplify thier desires one at a time.
This is the key to successful goal setting and achieving these targeted deadlines or goals. Desire. Desire can also be summed up as dreams, wishes, or wants. Desire always sparks an action. You want to read this, or else, you wouldn't be. Sometimes when we say "we're doing what we don't want to" we're really doing it because something made us want to, whether that's to please our spouse, boss, or someone else.
Desire is always sparking action, and truly successful people have realized that this is the key to setting goals. When they desire something, they have learned to set aside all other frills for that one desire; their actions are completely controlled by that one want.
If you can master this, your life will be completely formed by what you want, need, and desire.
Even the Christian Bible speaks of this formula. In the book of James it says that every man is dragged off by his desire (want), and then sins accordingly (action), and sin is death (reward).
But we are in constant conflict. Our want to be lazy cannot be as strong as our want to be successful. This will lead us to confusion, and ultimately, discontentment without action.
If your desire is burning inside of you, I suggest, and encourage you to fuel that fire, and bring it to life by denying all of the other desires that conflict (which takes honesty with yourself) with that goal. You can do it.
